Kinetics calculations
Description
This paper attempts to provide an overview of the methodology that must be invoked to analyze power excursions that can occur as a result of inadvertant criticality. They are first be discussed in terms of the basic physics involved. One examines the neutron kinetics equations and in particular the Fuch's model for excursion behavior where feedback due to heat capacity and gas production effects, is involved. The influence of the attempted assembly of multiplying materials where a ''weak source'' condition exists is examined. The conditions pertinent to power excursion analysis are tried to be indentified. The second portion of this paper examines the values of the parameters in the kinetics analysis of solution systems as determined from actual experimental data using sulfate, nitrate, and fluoride solutions of uranium (CRAC, SHEBA and KEWB experiments).
