Comparative evaluation of 123I and /sup 99m/Tc for thyroid studies
- 1. Brookhaven National Lab., Upton, NY
Description
Both /sup 99m/Tc and 123I can be used to advantage in assessing thyroid function and anatomy. The nuclides have similar principal gamma photons, and their short physical half-lives result in low radiation dose, thus allowing administration of large quantities of activity. The very early uptakes of these radionuclides by the thyroid do not bear a consistent relationship, and that requires further study. The clinical value of 123I depends ultimately on its consistent availability at reasonable cost
