Spectroscopy of light and heavy quarks

Description

New results on various controversial light mesons are reviewed, including the glueball candidates f2(1720) and eta(1460), the 1++-0-+ mass ''coincidences'' f1(1285)-eta(1275) and f1(1420)-eta(1420), as well as evidence for the X(3100)→Λanti p+nπ and the rho(1480)→phi π, which have quantum numbers not allowed for q anti q. The γγ→VV effects move out of the threshold region with data on γγ→ωrho. Statistically weak data on Γ/sub γγ/eta/sub c/ and the search for heavy quark P1 states are presented. Γ/sub ee/, B/sub μμ/, and Γ/sub tot/ for the Υ(1S), Υ(2S), and Υ(3S) are updated using new data and a consistent treatment of the radiative corrections for Γ/sub ee/. New data on the mass splittings of the chi/sub b/(2P) compare favorably with the scalar confinement model, which may however have new trouble. 150 refs., 43 figs
