International developments in the field of nuclear safety

In the framework of the BMUV project 4720R01500 with a term from July 3rd, 2020 to May 31st, 2023, GRS continued its scientific and technical research to monitor international developments in the field of nuclear safety and the effectiveness of foreign regulatory systems. The focus of the content was on own scientific activities for the tracking, processing and system-technical evaluation of systems and concepts of reactors in operation, under construction and in development as well as tracking of the development of nuclear safety in selected countries and the international regulatory framework. This involved cooperation and the exchange of experience on safety-related issues with TSOs and regulators in a bilateral framework, in multilateral working groups and at workshops and conferences. The objective of the project was further development of knowledge, the ability of GRS to make statements and to judge nuclear safety in other countries in all its complexity, starting with the safety status of nuclear facilities, the known measures for safety improvement, the development of international requirements for nuclear safety and their implementation in the respective national regulations. This final report summarizes the results that were achieved in the 7 work packages of the project.
