Description

By a pseudopotential method the perturbation of the outer electronics s and p levels of Mg and Ca by rare-gas matrices is calculated. A blue-shift for the P <- S absorption lines of the rigth magnitude is calculated for Mg and Ca in Ar and Kr matrices. For these systems the conclusion is that the stable trapping site is a cluster of 4 tetrahedrally arranged vacancies. Related to these findings it is possible to recognize a general trend in the isolation behaviour of the metal atoms
