Effect of additional radiotherapy for tumor embolism on rabbit VX2 tumor

  • 1. Yamaguchi Univ., Ube (Japan). School of Medicine

Description

It is well known that transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) is very effective on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) clinically. Recently additional radiotherapy has been reported to be more effective than TAE alone. In this study, we tried confirming those clinical results using rabbit VX2 tumor system. Furthermore, hypoxic cell radiosensitizer RK28 was investigated with its Lipiodol emulsion. Tumor regression was observed more rapidly in the embolized and irradiated group than TAE alone. The radiosensitizing effect of RK28 was also observed. Additional radiotherapy with RK28 is clinically promising in the future. (author)
