Free maintenance tokamak reactor and its special features

  • 1. Gosudarstvennyj Komitet po Ispol'zovaniyu Atomnoj Ehnergii SSSR, Moscow. Inst. Atomnoj Ehnergii

Description

Some problems in tokamak-reactor maintenance and layout are discussed in the paper, which considers a reactor modification with enlarged toroidal field coils within which the equilibrium coils and the inductor are located, to provide free access to the reactor systems for maintenance and to reduce currents in the equilibrium system and in the inductor. The possibility of applying ultrapure aluminium as a material for stabilizing the superconducting busbars is discussed. The capital costs of the main systems for a reactor with free maintenance are estimated. The optimum parameters from the point of view of plasma physics, geometry and technology are discussed.
