The anisotropy of spiral galaxy orientation

  • 1. Abastumani Astrophysical Observatory, Mount Kanobili (USSR)

Description

A study of the distribution of spiral galaxy orientations on the basis of 7563 spiral galaxies in the Abastumani Catalogue of Bright Galxies, shows a statistically highly significant predominance of S-spirals over reverse-S spirals. This observational fact indicates a large-scale asymmetry of the local region of the Universe. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

(orig.)
