Description

In connection with the acquisition of a very comprehensive data set as a result of the International Magnetospheric Study (IMS), investigations were being conducted concerning the most appropriate approaches for an analysis of the data by IMS researchers, taking into account procedures which would ensure an exposure of the results of the IMS to the largest possible audience in the least amount of time. Two formats considered for interaction among IMS researchers include the 'Working Conference' and the prototype of the Coordinated Data Analysis Workshop (CDAW). It was recognized that the large amount of data involved demanded the use of a large computer data bank if any progress was to be made in a time-limited workshop. It was decided to discuss the nature of the data acquired over the December 1977 interval at a Working Conference in June 1978. Some time after the Working Conference it was announced that CDAW 1.0 would be held at the Satellite Situation Center in December 1978. It is pointed out that the IMS community has profited greatly from the experience of CDAW 1
