Crystal field and metamagnetic behavior of rare-earth orthoaluminates: DyAlO3
- 1. Moskovskij Gosudarstvennyj Univ. (USSR). Fizicheskij Fakul'tet
Description
The 15 crystal field parameters of a Cs-symmetry Hamiltonian are determined for the Dy3+ ion in DyAlO3 by fitting the temperature dependencies of susceptibility along the three crystal axes, Stark splittings, and the g-tensor to the values observed. Metamagnetic transitions are investigated for various directions of the field in the ab plane between T = 1.52 and TN = 3.52 K. The metamagnetic behavior of DyAlO3 is in accordance with the character of the Dy3+ ground state, determined by our crystal field data. (author)
