Description
The 4π Multidetector AMPHORA at the SARA facility in Grenoble has been used to detect multifragmentation following the reactions of 35 MeV/u 40Ca with 40Ca. Approximately 105 events with high multiplicity and essentially complete event characterization have been obtained. Comparisons of the data with model calculations assuming either sequential binary deexcitation or simultaneous multifragmentation of the hot intermediate composite nucleus suggest that both mechanisms may be required to explain the observed fragmentation patterns
