On dissipation of kinetic energy in deep inelastic collisions of heavy ions
Description
The adiabatic perturbation theory is applied to study the possibility of dissipation of the energy of the relative motion during evolution of the double nuclear system due to coupling to collective excitations similar to giant resonances. Application of the hydrodynamical description of the collective modes to the case under consideration is treated. The energy dissipation is estimated to be of < or approximately 10-4((N-Z)/A)2 fraction of the kinetic energy of the relative motion over the Coulomb barrier
