Two-phase upward air water flow in a prismatic channel with rectangular base

Description

Two-phase liquid-gas mixtures provide suitable means to simulate water-water vapor flows, which may occur in nuclear reactor cores. The mastery of physical transport phenomena is of great importance, as far as the analysis of such thermal systems is concerned. Within the framework of thermal-hydraulic programs, experiments have been carried out to investigate the two-phase upward air-water flow structure, in a rectangular test section, by using independent measuring techniques, which comprise direct viewing and photography, electrical probes and gamma-ray attenuation. In this paper, flow pattern maps and correlations for flow pattern transitions, void fraction profiles, liquid film thickness and superficial average void fraction are proposed and compared to available data. Abstract (Portuguese)

Os escoamentos de misturas liquido-gas proporcionam condicao de simulacao adequada dos escoamentos agua-vapor d'agua, os quais podem ocorrer no nucleo dos reatores nucleares. O dominio dos fenomenos fisicos de transporte e de grande importancia na analise termohidraulica desses sistemas. No escopo de programas de termica, foram realizados testes objetivando investigar bem a natureza dos escoamentos ascendentes de agua e ar, em secao de testes retangular, com auxilio de tecnicas visuais e fotograficas, de sondas eletricas e de atenuacao gama. Nesta contribuicao, cartas de configuracao de escoamento e correlacoes de fronteiras de transicao de tipo de escoamento, distribuicoes de fracao de vazio, espessura de pelicula de liquido e fracao de vazio media superficial sao propostas e comparadas a resultados disponiveis na literatura.
