Description

High resolution neutron-induced fission cross section measurements in the threshold region for several actinides were undertaken in the 60 MeV linac of Saclay used as a pulsed neutron source. The time-of-flight spectrometer had a nominal resolution of 0.3 ns/m. In this paper only the results of 237Np between 100 keV and 2 MeV were presented which confirm the low value of the energy of the second minimum of the 238Np double-humped fission barrier. Because of the complete damping of possible vibrational states in the second well of such a fission barrier, no vibrational resonances were observed in the threshold region
