Structure of alloying zones of 38KhA and 38KhN3MFA steels and an austenite steel

  • 1. Ural'skij Politekhnicheskij Inst., Sverdlovsk (USSR)

Description

The succession of the welding operations (overlaying welding) by austenite electrodes and strengthening thermal treatment of perlite-type and martensite-type steels markedly affects the structure and properties of the welding zone, where brittle diffusion interlayers with increased hardness can appear. The strengthening thermal treatment of 38KhA steel, which contains a small amount of the carbide-forming elements, must be performed prior to the welding or overlaying welding by the austenite electrodes. In this case the probability of the diffusion interlayer formation is considerably decreased. The strengthening treatment of 38KhN3MFA steel, which contains many carbide-forming elements, can be carried out after the welding process, since this steel is reluctant to the diffusion interlayer formation
