Catalytic decomposition of organic anions in alkali radioactive wastes. III. Oxidation of oxalate and glycolate

Description
Decomposition of oxalate and glycolate ions in alkali solutions under O3, H2O2, Na2S2O8 effect is investigated by titrimetric and spectrophotometric methods. Dependences of chemical reactions on temperature and concentration are determined. It is shown that H2O2 turns out not effective for oxalate and glycolate decomposition. Interaction of persulfate with glycolate takes part at 50 Deg C and higher and is characterized by the presence of inductive period, which decreases with S2O82- and OH- concentration, temperature increase or in the presence of AgNO3, K4Fe(CN)6. The process involves thermal dissociation of persulfate ions into ion-radicals with following development of chain reaction
Abstract (Russian)
Титриметрическим и спектрофотометрическим методами исследовано разложение оксалат- и гликолят-ионов в щелочных растворах под действием O3, H2O2, Na2S2O8. Определены зависимости кинетики химических реакций от температуры и концентрации. Показано, что H2O2 оказался неэффективным реагентом для разложения оксалата и гликолята. Взаимодействие персульфата с гликолятом протекает при 50 град C и выше и характеризуется наличием индукционного периода, который уменьшается с ростом концентрации S2O82- и OH-, температуры или в присутствии AgNO3, K4Fe(CN)6.
