Pressurized superfluid-helium-cooled 15-Tesla superconducting magnet system

Description
An Nb3Sn magnet, which was wound by a newly developed Ti-added Nb-tube-processed conductor, has been fabricated in Toshiba Research and Development Center. It was fabricated through a wind-and-react process (first wound and then reacted) ; then backed up by a newly fabricated Nb-Ti solenoid ; finally charged in liquid helium and superfluid helium. The magnet attained 13.6 Tesla in liquid helium at 4.2 K, and then 15.1 Tesla in superfluid helium at 1.8 K. The magnetic field attained in the experiment is one of the highest ever reached by multifilamentary conductor type magnets. (author)
