Experience with high chromium ferritic steels in fossil fired boilers
Description
Experience concerning fabrication, welding and some operational aspects of high chromium ferritic steels in fossil fired boilers are described. In general these steels do not present problems during fabrication provided proper temperature control is exercised. In the second part of the paper the effects of service exposure of a superheater tube (X 20 CrMoWV 12 1) at approximately 6000C after 80,000 hours are discussed. The high temperature corrosion behaviour is described together with the results of creep tests and metallographic investigations. (author)
