Description
Among available surface modifications techniques for affecting the overall mechanical behaviour of materials, shot peening is predominantly used going by its cost and ease of application. The study is focused to investigate the effect of shot peening on direct metal laser sintered (DMLS) austenitic grade stainless steel SS 316L to propose it for cryogenic application. The research envisages reviewing the existing literature related to enhancing the uniaxial tensile strength of austenitic grade stainless steel using the shot peening method. The second phase of the study correlates the study with finite element modeling of shot-peened DMLS SS 316L to evaluate its tensile behavior at 77 K. (author)
