Successful surgical removal of eight enteroliths in a horse
Description
A case of simple obstruction of the large intestine caused by eight enteroliths in a horse is described. The enteroliths were surgically removed. Radiographic examination revealed a very dense nidus in every stone. One enterolith was subjected to a qualitative examination by X-ray diffraction and in this way it was established that the enterolith consisted of ammonium magnesium phosphate crystals. The quantitative composition was also determined
