Rad waste consultation

The issue of appropriate policy for radioactive waste disposal in the United Kingdom has yet to be resolved. Despite over ten years of effort, Nirex, the company responsible for safe management of such waste, has not yet established a dispersal programme, which meets Government and public priorities. The Government's recent review of its policy is analyzed critically from two opposing viewpoints, that of a representative of Friends of the Earth and that of a nuclear researcher. It is concluded that interim storage of radioactive waste is the only feasible option, and this is now under consideration. (UK)
