Effects of aspect ratio on magnetics of tokamaks with Quasi-continuous magnets

Description
A scoping study is performed of LITE (Long Pulse Ignited Test Experiment) type machines that use quasicontinous toroidal field magnets. The mission for the Toroidal Fusion Core Experiment (TFCX) is the basis for the assumptions. The physics criteria for ignition and the main engineering constraints of the toroidal field magnet are held fixed. The ensuing tradeoffs are discussed. A scoping study is performed to indicate the trends as the ignition margins are varied. Furthermore, the implications of using RF current drive for start up are discussed
