Development of pedestrian portal monitor for special nuclear material
- 1. China Inst. of Atomic Energy, Beijing (China)
Description
A pedestrian portal monitor using plastic scintillation as detector for special nuclear material (SNM) is developed. At 2.58 x 10-9 C·kg-1·h-1 of background and less than 1.2 m/s of pedestrian speed, the sensitivity is 2 g and 0.06 g for high enrichment uranium and low-burnup plutonium respectively; at 5.16 x 10-9 C·kg-1·h-1 of background and less than 1.2 m/s of pedestrian speed, the sensitivity is 3 g and 0.08 g for high enrichment uranium and low-burnup plutonium respectively. The false alarm probability is less than 1/3000. (authors)
