Study of complexing between organic molecules and rare earth ions in solutions by the method of electron energy transfer

Description

The phenomenon is considered of radiationless energy transfer between organic molecules and ions of the rare-earth metals (REM) in solutions and with the employment of this phenomenon in studies of the coordination - chemical processes involving the REM ions. The study of complexing by the energy-transfer method is often carried out with the help of conventional photoelectric apparatus for measuring the luminescence intensity and attenuation kinetics. The use of the energy transfer technique has made it possible: 1) to discover a new type of ionic pairs between anionic dyes and REM ions in solutions; 2) to establish the presence of equilibrium in weakly-donating solvents between the complexes 'aromatic ketone' - REM ion and solvated ketones and REM ions and to estimate the stability constants for +.hese complexes; 3) to draw a conclusion about the dynamics of incorporation of triplet ketones into the internal coordination sphere of unexcited REM ions and to determine the activation energy for this process; 4) to obtain information on the process of incorporation of an unexcited aromatic ketone into the internal solvatic shell of excited REM ions and to evaluate the activation energy for this process in different solvents.
