Nucleosynthesis of heavy elements

Creators

  • 1. Ohio State Univ., Columbus (USA)

Description

Theoretical studies of heavy-element nucleosynthesis processes, the r(apid) and s(low) neutron-capture processes and the so-called p-process, are reviewed. The key questions shall be: (1) how much do they know about the astrophysical sites for these processes?; (2) do we then know which of them are the ones that were possibly associated with the heavy element abundance in the solar system?; (3) do we know any nuclear clocks on which they can rely to determine the age of the Galaxy? and (4) how well do we need to know about the input nuclear data in the attempt to answer these questions?
