Low level measurements of potassium, thorium and uranium by means of scintillometry in the field
Description
A URTEC UG140 portable gamma ray spectrometer and an externally housed low background sodium iodide crystal have been used in many sites at widely differing localities to measure potassium, thorium and uranium in the field. In most cases it was necessary to count for 1000 seconds for each element. The scintillometer results have been compared with XRF results and despite the low levels, the average ratio of XRF to scintillometer is unity for the three elements at five localities
