Mixed valence and heavy-fermion compounds as two-component systems

  • 1. AN SSSR, Moscow. Fizicheskij Inst.

Description

A two-component model is employed to analyze the properties of mixed valence and heavy fermion compounds. Expressions for the thermodynamic quantities: compressibility, specific heat, thermal expansion coefficient and magnetic susceptibility are obtained and their dependence on temperature and magnetic field is analyzed. The behaviour of a number of kinetic characteristics is investigated. A consistent interpretation of the specific properties of the compounds under consideration (such as UBe13, UPt3, CeCu2Si2) requires that both the heavy and light components, as well as their interaction, is taken into account. It is demostrated that the two-component model describes satisfactorily the main experimental facts
