Simulation of the ambient dose equivalent in a non-spherical phantom for photon energies from 10 keV to 1.25 MeV

  • 1. National Radiological Protection Board, Chilton (UK)

Description

Monte Carlo calculations of dose equivalent in cuboid phantoms have been performed. The objective of these calculations is to select the dimensions of a phantom of suitable composition that will simulate ambient dose equivalent with acceptable uncertainties over a photon energy range from 10 keV to 1.25 MeV. The materials considered were ICRU soft tissue, MS20, Shonka plastic and PNL plastic. The results produced for the above materials and the problems encountered in trying to simulate ambient dose equivalent in a non-spherical phantom are presented. (author)
