The zirconium connection

Creators

Description

It is stated that the reactor fuel in light water reactors is sheathed in cladding at present consisting of an alloy of zirconium. It is argued that the ability of zirconium to react with water or steam at sufficiently high temperatures, releasing hydrogen, presents a serious hazard to the safe operation of these reactors. The subject is discussed in detail. (U.K.)
