Negative attempt at verifying radioprotective effect of 2-mercaptopropionylglycine and its disulfide in mice
Description
2-mercaptopropionylglycine (MPG) and its disulfide was administered to albino mice intraperitoneally in a dose of 25 mgxkg-1 15 minutes prior to acute whole-body irradiation (0.509 Gyxmin-1) or 30 mins after the irradiation. The administration of MPG or its disulfide both prior and after irradiation was not found to result in an increase in mice radioresistance assessed by means of the mean lethal dose of gamma radiation for 30-day survival. Thus, the experiments did not confirm the radioprotective and therapeutic effects described earlier elsewhere, of nontoxic doses of MPG and its disulfide in mice. (author)
