Thermal decomposition of Am3+ and Cm3+ nitrates
Description
By the methods of differential thermal (DTA) and X-ray phase analyses thermal decomposition of Am3+ and Cm3+ nitrate hydrates in helium and oxygen atmosphere has been investigated. The thermolysis final products have been identified. According to DTA data formation enthalpies of anhydrous crystal Am3+ and Cm3+ nitrates are evaluated, being - 640 and - 700 kJ/mol respectively. It is pointed out that natural α-irradiation of 244Cm affects considerably the character of Cm3+ salts decomposition, causing their self-decomposition
