Comparison of T-T and D-T fusion cycles in intor design

  • 1. Eidgenoessisches Inst. fuer Reaktorforschung, Wuerenlingen (Switzerland)

Description

One of the largest problems of D-T (deuterium-tritium) fusion is an extensive amount of radiation damage at the first wall of a fusion device caused by fast neutrons from the D-T reaction, which have an energy peak around 14.1 MeV. Therefore the possibility was investigated of replacing the D-T reaction by T-T reaction which produces two neutrons with lower energies than DT neutrons, with continuous soft spectrum. (orig./GG)
