Description
We suggest a mechanism for avoiding the Fischler-Kaplunovsky-Susskind catastrophe. We explore the detailed consequences of our mechanism in a model which, although drastically simplified in some respects, contains what we believe to be the essential physics. In the model we find wormholes are not densely packed on macroscopic scales. Indeed, there is a nonzero wormhole density only on a scale set by the ''bare'' (pre-wormhole) value of the cosmological constant. Also, G is not forced to zero, nor are particle masses necessarily forced to either zero or infinity. (orig.)
