Regularities of radium coprecipitation with barium sulfate from salt solutions

Description
Coprecipitation of radium with barium sulfate from highly concentrated NaCl solutions is studied, including the effects of the initial solution composition, alkaline reagent (CaO, NaOH), supporting electrolyte (NaCl) concentration, and pH. The process is promoted by high NaCl concentration in the initial solution, which is due to structural transformation and change in the sorption activity of the BaSO4 precipitate in salt solutions. The results obtained were applied to recovery of radium from process solutions during the development and introduction of improved procedure for disinfection and decontamination of waste yielded by chlorination of loparite concentrates
Abstract (Russian)
Изучено соосаждение радия с BaSO4 из растворов с высоким содержанием NaCl. Рассмотрено влияние состава исходных растворов, типа щелочного реагента (CaO, NaOH), концентрации электролита (NaCl) и величины рН на процесс. Процессу способствует повышение концентрации NaCl в исходном растворе, что объясняется изменением структуры и сорбционной активности осадка BaSO4 в солевых растворах. Полученные закономерности использованы для локализации радия из производственных растворов при разработке и внедрении усовершенствованной технологии обезвреживания и дезактивации отходов процесса хлорирования лопаритовых концентратовAdditional details
