Description
Germany has to deal with the consequences of the phasing out of nuclear energy in the coming decades. In addition, associated businesses, employees, the local population and the community will have to adapt to the new situation. The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the decommissioning of nuclear installations in matters of technology, business, society and politics. Therefore, perceived consequences were examined at five nuclear power plant communities (Karlsruhe, Neckarwestheim, Philippsburg, Biblis, reference site) by questioning the staff and local population using questionnaires and interviews. The main impacts were localized in the area of labor market, municipal finances and demographics. Most citizens want to stay in their communities, but this depends mainly an the creation of new jobs and training places. Finally, desirable future scenarios for the affected communities were evolved in a future workshop.
