Research with the EN tandem accelerator
Description
In the past year the Monte Carlo design calculations for a Compton-suppression spectrometer (CSS) with large solid angle have been completed. The present CSS with the small solid angle of 7.5 msr is very suitable for the measurement of singles spectra and angular distributions, because in such one-detector experiments the (advantageously) small solid angle can be compensated for by the use of a higher beam intensity. Properties of yrast levels in 34Cl, 44Ca and 59Ni have been investigated. High-spin levels of these nuclei are populated in the reactions 24Mg(12C,pnγ)34Cl, 28Si(18O,2pγ)44Ca and 46Ti(16O,2pnγ) 59Ni at bombarding energies of 30-45 MeV. Some results specific for 34Cl are discussed. (Auth.)
