Boron nitride protective coating of beryllium window surfaces

Creators

  • 1. Brookhaven National Lab., Upton, NY (United States). National Synchrotron Light Source

Description

A commercially available boron nitride aerosol has been found to protect white X-ray beamline beryllium windows, whose surfaces are exposed to atmosphere, from contamination and degradation. The physical characteristics and chemical makeup of the aerosol are described. The results of studies on a variety of beamlines at the NSLS show that certain experimetal configurations benefit from this protective coating. (orig.)
