The present state of the use of radioisotopes in Hungarian agricultural research

Purely the 15N has been used from the stabil isotopes in the Hungarian research of biological character. The main fields of the research activity are the followings: investigation of nitrogen from plant food getting to the overground part of vegetable and remaining in the soil, connection between the water supply of soil and utilization of nitrogen plant food, the temperature function of intake of nitrogen from NH4+ and NO3- ions, connection between the high lysin content and the proportion of nitrogen fraction in the normal and mutant maize, examination of glycin distribution in the organs of rats, the turnover intensity of nitrogen dosed in the form of urea and ammonium nitrate and the accumulation of nitrite-nitrate in spinach, shortening the lifetime of red blood cells in patients suffering from burning anemia. Measuring the quantity of 15N is carried out by optical and mass spectrometry. (K.A.)
