Description
IAEA has a global commitment to the development of peaceful applications of nuclear energy in its Member States. In fulfillment of statutory responsibilities, technical assistance to developing forms an important component of IAEA activities. The paper discusses the scope of IAEA technical assistance to developing countries with particular reference to radioactive waste management. The mechanisms by which the technical assistance program is implemented and IAEA activities available to developing countries for the implementation of safe radioactive waste management and disposal practices are covered. The technological, safety and service aspects of the technical assistance program are described in detail
