Multiphoton processes
Description
The history and basic mechanisms of multiphoton processes which occur at large radiation field strengths and are described by higher-order terms in the perturbation theory of radiation-matter interactions, are examined. The use of such multiphoton processes in spectroscopic investigation of atomic and molecular structures, and their application, especially to laser compression of plasmas and laser isotope separation by selective excitation, are considered.
