Fission product gamma irradiation effects on the optical properties of light waveguides

  • 1. Atominstitut der Oesterreichischen Universitaeten, Wien (Austria)

Description

The influence of fission product gamma irradiation of different doses on the transmission properties of optical fiber waveguides was investigated at the TRIGA Mark-II reactor Wien. Fiber samples of various commercial suppliers were exposed in a cadmium-shielded box in the thermal column of the TRIGA reactor. The gamma dose was determined by thermoluminescence dosimeters using TLD-600 and TLD-700 powders. Results are presented for four different fiber samples in the range from 550 nm to 1150 nm exposed to gamma doses up to 4 x 107 rad
