Neutron source assemblies

  • 1. Nippon Atomic Industry Group Co. Ltd., Tokyo

Description

Purpose: To increase the amount of neutrons generated in antimony-beryllium type neutron source assemblies for fbr type reactors by increasing the probability that generated gamma rays collide within the beryllium with no decrease in antimony volume. Constitution: The neutron assemblies consists of an annular antimony section, an annular beryllium section surrounding the same, and a generally hexagonal tubular enclosure for covering them. A gas plenum is provided above the beryllium section. The antimony section consists of an annular antimony body and outer and inner antimony cover tubes. The beryllium section consists of an annular beryllium body and inner and outer beryllium cover tubes. This can increase the probability that gamma rays generated from the annular antimony body collide in the annular beryllium body by about 20% and the amount of the neutron generated can also be increased.
