Effective collision strengths for inner shell transitions of Fe XVI

  • 1. Astrophysics Research Centre, School of Mathematics and Physics, Queen's University Belfast, Belfast BT7 1NN (United Kingdom)

Description

Collision strengths for transitions among the energetically lowest 134 levels of the (1s22s2) 2p63l, 2p53s2, 2p53s3p, 2p53s3d, 2p53p3d and 2p53d2 configurations of Fe XVI are computed, over an electron energy range below 570 Ryd, using the Dirac atomic R-matrix code (DARC) and the flexible atomic code (FAC). All partial waves with J≤ 40 have been included, and the contribution of higher partial waves has been added to ensure the convergence of collision strengths for all transitions and at all energies. Effective collision strengths have also been calculated at electron temperatures below 1.5 x 107 K by averaging collision strengths over a Maxwellian distribution of electron velocities. Some representative results are compared with those available in the literature, and the discrepancies are discussed
