Traumatic transection of the optic chiasm: Magnetic resonance evaluation

  • 1. All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (India). Departments of Radiodiagnosis and Ophthalmology

Description

Disruption of the optic chiasm is a rare complication of head trauma. Non-contrast Computed tomography of the head showed basi-frontal contusion but no evidence of haematoma. We present the findings on MRI of this entity in a 40-year-old patient presenting with bitemporal hemianopia. Complete chismal transection was confirmed on T1-weighted axial, coronal and sagittal images. Copyright (1998) Blackwell Science Pty Ltd
