Description
The one-plaquette Manton gauge theory Hamiltonian is solved in the large-N limit. The system has a phase transition in lambda = g2N at lambda/sub c/ = π2/2. This suggests that the Gross-Witten phase transition is not a peculiarity of Wilson's action and that it appears in higher dimensions, even if other lattice actions are used
