Description

The atomic structure and electron-impact-excitation processes of neonlike heavy ions have been systematically investigated through X-ray spectroscopy with the Tokyo electron beam ion trap. Several n = 3-2 transitions for Z = 50 to 56 were observed with a flat crystal spectrometer. From the observed spectra, wavelengths and relative line intensities were obtained as functions of Z and electron energy. Through the wavelength measurements, strong configuration interaction among n = 3 excited levels were investigated, while the electron-impact-excitation processes were investigated through the line intensity measurements. Theoretical calculation has also been performed to reproduce the experimental spectra. The theoretical results were found to agree well with the experiment both for wavelength and for line intensity. Near future plan with a new spectrometer which is recently developed for hard X-rays (> 15 keV) are also presented
