Creators

Description

This article examines the expansion of PP and L Global hydroelectric commitment in Spain, Portugal and Austria, the impact of deregulation in the US, and PP and L's attempts to gain a competitive position. PP and L's service area in Pennsylvania, and their joining of the Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland power pool is examined. The rush to buy generating assets which has been assisted by restructuring laws that required some utilities to divest generating assets is noted, and the acquisition of hydroelectric power plants in Montana by PP and L, their original reliance on coal and nuclear generation, the increasing interest in hydro power for low cost generation and environmental benefits, and their investment and productivity improvements are discussed.
