The determination of lead and cadmium in dusts by DPASV

  • 1. The Open Univ., Milton Keynes (United Kingdom). Faculty of Technology

Description

The simultaneous determination of Pb and Cd in dust by differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV) at the hanging mercury drop electrode is described with reference to the effects of pH, supporting electrolytes and interfering ions. In solutions of pH 2-5 at the established optimum conditions, the determinations were reproducible with a relative standard deviation of 10%. The detection limit is 0.1 ppb for both lead and cadmium. The accuracy and precision of the method was assessed using certified reference samples and by comparing the results for these standards and real dust samples with those from atomic absorption spectrophotometry.
