Confinement of electrons in non-neutral plasma with dense core in an electron beam penning trap
- 1. China Science and Technology Univ., Hefei (China). Dept. of Modern Physics
Description
By means of injecting an electron beam with low canonical angular momentum into a Penning trap, electron plasma with a dense core is confined in the device. When the electrostatic field in the trap matches its magnetic one, more electrons can gain energy by collision and escape the trap, and are collected with a Faraday cup. A threshold of injection electron current for establishing the dense core confinement exists, and is found to be proportional to the electrostatic field in the trap
