Effect of niobium on the corrosion of austenitic stainless steels

Description

The niobium influence on the grouth of passivating oxide film on austenitics stainless steels was investigated with potentiodynamic methods in 2N H2SO4 as electrolyte at 25 ± 10C. The increase of niobium content content in austenitic stainless steel affects the film characteristics the film characteristics formed changing markedey the critical passivating current density (ip1) and maintaing almost constant the passivating current density (ipas. The critical passivating current density has been analysed through its dependence on the sweep velocity. (author)

Abstract (Portuguese)

A influencia do niobio sobre a formacao de filmes oxidos passivantes em acos inoxidaveis austeniticos foi estudada potenciodinamicamente em meio de H2SO42N e na temperatura de 25 ± 10C. O aumento da concentracao de niobio no aco inoxidavel austenitico afeta as caracteristicas do filme formado, modificando acentuadamente a densidade de corrente critica de passivacao (ip1) e mantendo praticamente constante a densidade de corrente de passivacao (i Sub(pas)). A densidade de corrente critica de passivacao foi analisada a partir de sua depencencia com a velocidade de varredura. (autor)
